HOMER AREA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
The George and Betty Petredean Scholarship
George and Betty Petredean feel very fortunate that they had caring adults who encouraged and assisted them in pursuing a college education. They have established the George and Betty Petredean Scholarship Fund for graduates of Homer High School. Each year, two graduates are awarded a scholarship, which is renewable for four years. "We've had so much," said George Petredean. 'We're very appreciative of what we have had and enjoy sharing our good fortune. I hope later in life the scholarship recipients will be able to do the same."

Recipients of this scholarship should exhibit strong academic performance, leadership skills, and community involvement and be graduates of Homer High School. This Scholarship is $2,000 yearly (which is renewable) upon meeting certain requirements for three years for a total of $8000.00.

The Harry and Linda Lucyshyn Memorial Scholarship

Harry Lucyshyn and Linda Hyde Lucyshyn were graduates of Homer High School. They both attended Michigan State University. Linda majored in speech and audiology and Harry majored in Veterinary Medicine. Harry and Linda married and returned to Homer where they worked and were active in the community. They had one son Greg Lucyshyn who also graduated from Homer High School. Harry died in 1981 and Linda died in 1983. This scholarship has been established in their memory.

One yearly scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a Homer community school graduate. Consideration is given to those students who may be pursuing careers in audiology, sciences, agriculture and veterinary medicine.

HOMER POWER FOR KIDS SCHOLARSHIP

The original P.O.W.E.R. for Kid's program was for youth in grades 5-7. The program focused on work ethics, learning, playing and serving. This scholarship has been established to continue to promote these values.

Two scholarships of $250 each will be awarded yearly to Homer Community School graduates whose school career has exemplified the principles of work, serve, learn, play, and community service.

BESSIE L. SMITH SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Bessie L. Smith was born in 1904. She lived her entire life of 95 years in the Homer Area. She graduated from Homer High School in 1922. She attended Teachers College (now known as Western Michigan University) and received a teaching certificate. She taught and substituted for many years in the Homer area. Bessie married William Smith and raised five children, all of whom graduated from Homer High School. She continued to substitute teach while raising her family and was involved with young people in the community. Her dedication and commitment to the Homer community was an important part of her life.

A yearly scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a Homer High School graduate based on scholarship, merit and community participation.

PHIL DUFF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

This fund was established in memory of Phillip Duff, former Homer Elementary School Principal and active community member.

A yearly scholarship of $250 will be awarded to a Homer High School graduate based on scholarship, merit and community participation.

SLF/BLAIR SCHOLARSHIP FUND

A yearly scholarship of $500 will be awarded to Homer Community School graduates based on scholarship, merit, and community participation. The recipient must be in good standing, demonstrate financial need and have participated in volunteer or community service projects.

All Scholarships must be applied for through the Homer High School Guidance Counselor's Office.
